CALL TO WORSHIP
We come to prepare for the holiest of weeks.
We will journey through praise, with joy on our lips;
we will travel through betrayal and death,
cradling hope deep in our hearts.
Jesus leads us through this week, and we will follow,
for he is the life we long for,
he is the Word who sustains us.
We wave palm branches in anticipation,
we lay our love before him, to cushion his walk.
Setting aside all power, glory, and might, he comes:
modeling humility and obedience for all of us.
Hosanna! Hosanna!
Blessed is the One who brings us
the kingdom of God.
SONGS
TEACH US YOUR WAYS
[Verse 1]
Teach us Your ways, teach us Your ways
As we learn from one another
Learn to love each other
Teach us Your ways
[Verse 2]
Teach us to give, teach us to give
Give ourselves for one another
Learn to love each other
Teach us to give
[Verse 3]
Teach us to weep, teach us to weep
Let us weep with one another
Learn to love each other
Teach us to weep
[Verse 4]
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Let us learn from one another
Learn to love each other
Teach us Your ways
HAVE MERCY ON ME
[Verse 1]
The goodness of the Lord is the kindness of the Lord
With ev'ry breath we take, the gift of life and grace
The power of the Lord is the meekness of the Lord
Who bore humanity with brave humility
[Chorus]
Let Your mercy flow through us
Your mercy, Your mercy
Let Your mercy flow through us
Your mercy, Your mercy
[Verse 2]
The beauty of the Lord is the suff'ring of the Lord
Is Christ upon a tree, stripped of dignity
The glory of the Lord is the mercy of the Lord
Gives life for us to see a new humanity
[Chorus]
Let Your mercy flow through us
Your mercy, Your mercy
Let Your mercy flow through us
Your mercy, Your mercy
[Bridge 1]
When they see us, may they see
Your mercy, Your mercy
When they know us, may they know
Your mercy, Your mercy
When they see us, may they see
Your mercy, Your mercy
When they know us, may they know
Your mercy, Your mercy
PASSING OF THE PEACE: Now let us share signs of that peace that we find in Christ with our neighbors!
PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION
Holy God, in the midst of the loud “Hosannas!”,
as the waving palm leaves rustle in unison, quiet our pre-conceived notions… and hush our sure grasp of your truth… so that we may, perhaps, discover something about your vision…your hope…your purpose for our life… that changes the way we think, act, and do. Amen.
SCRIPTURE Mark 14:1-8
This is the word of God for the people of God
Thanks be to God
SERMON
INVITATION TO THE CHRIST TABLE
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
The Holy One be with you
And also with you
Open your hearts to the One who is Love
We open our hearts to you, O God
Let us give thanks to God, who welcomes the stranger
To the One who reaches across every border, we give thanks and praise
Morning by morning, …who are sustained by your love, we join our voices, singing,
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Holy are you, … as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Here at the Table graced with creation's gifts,… God in Community, Holy in One.
Amen.
RECEIVING COMMUNION
SONG
This is the day, this is the day
That the Lord has made, that the Lord has made
I will rejoice, I will rejoice
And be glad in it, and be glad in it
This is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
This is the day, this is the day
That the Lord has made
DISMISSAL
May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships,
so that we may live deep within our heart.
May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,
so that we may work for justice, freedom, and peace.
May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war,
so that we may reach out our hand to comfort others and turn their pain into joy.
And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world,
so that we can do what others claim cannot be done. Amen.
