Pastoral Internship

Part-Time/ 12 month

 

Storied Church is a New Faith Community located in Alamance County, NC. Our vision is to reclaim the church as a Christ-centered space. We are striving to create a space where every story matters, celebrates the uniqueness of each person, provides space to live into our narratives and be curious about our lives, spirituality, and world. 

 

Our congregation is a United Methodist pioneer plant started in 2019 and began meeting weekly via Facebook Live in April 2020. Just recently in June 2021, we started meeting weekly in person. 

 

We are looking to take our next steps as a congregation in hiring a Pastoral Intern. This person will have the opportunity to experience being a part of a New Faith Community that is centered around progressive values. They will also gain experience in working alongside the laity on Sunday mornings, community groups, service opportunities.

 

The Pastoral Internship is a part-time/12-month position. Compensation is commiserate based upon experience from 8,000-10,000 range annually.

 

Potential ministry opportunities include:

  • Community engagement 

  • Volunteer Coordination

  •  Worship Ministry

  • Children’s Ministry

  • Preaching

  • Social Media

  • Creative Team (art, graphics, etc.)

  • Community Group coordination

Responsibilities could include but are not limited to

  • Participate in Sunday morning operations

  • Assist with scheduling Volunteers

  • Manage church social media accounts and church-wide communication

  • Other responsibilities for more tailored roles based on gifting and passion.

 

Typical Hours are below

 

  • 1.5 hours monthly for one-on-one supervisory check-in with the pastor

  • 2 hours weekly for making contacts and cultivating relationships in the community

  • 3-4 hours for worship on Sunday mornings (setup, teardown, preparation, and presence)

  • 1 hour weekly to be present for programs and other opportunities outside of Sunday morning

  • 2 hours weekly of program planning and preparation

  • 1 hour weekly coordinating volunteers for various programming

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

  • A desire and ability to be innovative and creative with the ministry program offered through the church and the community at large

  • Comfortable communicating both in person and virtually

  • Some familiarity with streaming and production software and technologies is preferred but not required

  • Education background and/or experience in Christian theology preferred but not required

Children's Spiritual Formation Director

Part-Time

We are hiring a part-time Children’s Formation Director. Our children are ages from 6 months to 12 years old. We are hoping this person will dream, plan, and implement the planning of our children’s ministry. Someone that has a passion for relationships, children, and forming a progressive minded children’s ministry. Our hope is that our kids will be formed in liturgy, grow in depth of God’s love for them around the sacraments, and realize the value of each of their lives.

NUTS AND BOLTS 

  • Be attentive to the hopes, concerns, and needs of children in the community to determine how the congregation might serve them and their families and how they might serve one another as disciples and good neighbors

  • Encourage adults in the congregation to know the names of the children in the congregation, to address them by name, and to take an interest in their lives

  • Be familiar with the mission, vision, and values of Storied Church and ensure that ministry by, with, and for children and their families is in alignment

  • Advocate that all children experience belonging and are fully engaged in the ministries of the church

  • Dream, design, and implement a comprehensive program for children that includes worship, formation, fellowship, mission, and other experiences that guide children as they grow in faith

  • Lead the church in creating, annually updating, and implementing Safe Sanctuaries policies 

  • Regularly and intentionally communicate with parents and families and with children’s ministry leaders in other churches, denominations, and nonprofits, so that children have multiple opportunities to thrive

  • Coordinate special children and family-focused events outside of Sunday’s 

  • Create and guide the work of a laity team, empowering and equipping them to support the ministries and missions of Storied Church children’s ministry with the whole congregation

  • Work with other leaders and collaborative partners to develop and secure theologically aligned and developmentally appropriate resources and curriculum that support the work of teachers and leaders in ministry with children

  • Effectively manage kids and family ministry budget

  • Recruit and coordinate Local Kids volunteers to serve in various aspects of ministry with children and families

  • Maintain a healthy and growing personal spiritual life and lead others to do the same

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

  • Passion for and experience with sharing the love of Jesus with children and families

  • A desire and ability to be innovative and creative with the ministry program offered through the church, creating an inspirational experience for children, families, the entire congregation, and the community at large

  • Comfortable communicating both in person and virtually

  • Some familiarity with streaming and production software and technologies preferred but not required

  • Education background and/or experience in Christian theology preferred but not required
